People ask us all the time what makes us different from Groupon. We hear it a lot, so it’s worth addressing.
Unlike Groupon, we’ve chosen to stick to the restaurant industry. We think there are plenty of industries full of businesses that would be happy to offer deals to get more customers, but restaurants are special.
Here are some ways dealici is different (and better) than Groupon.
1. Dine with your friends and family
Deals on Groupon prohibit using multiple deals at the same table. So if you and your friend both have the same discount, only one of you can use it. That stinks, right? You both are ready and willing to use their service, but their platform doesn’t allow it.
We feel that that sort of restriction is far too limiting. If everyone can use their own deal, people will buy more food and have great dining experiences. Restaurants don’t mind honoring multiple dealici deals because it means more business for them.
When you buy a deal, don’t keep quiet about it! Use the in-app sharing tools to let your social network know. Text or email your friend and make lunch plans. Call your significant other and have them buy the same deal so you can have dinner together.
2. The more the merrier
Eating is a social activity, especially when we go out to restaurants. So it made sense to us that any app that made dining out easier (and less expensive) would have a social element.
When more people buy the same deal within dealici, the deal gets better for everyone. Even the original buyer. Let’s say you pick up a sweet deal for 25% off or your order. As the day goes on, three more people buy the same deal, but now the discount has risen to 35% off. Since the deal is higher, it’s more likely that more people will buy it, further increasing the savings.
“Wait a minute,” you might say, “Why would I want to be the first person to buy if the deal is going to get better? Shouldn’t I wait until it’s high?”
As dealici deals get better, the price is adjusted for everyone, even the earlier buyers. Imagine buying a deal at 25%, but finding out it’s actually 50% off when you get to the restaurant. Not a bad day!
Dealici deals raise as high as 60% off. The deal ranges are set by the restaurants, so you’ll have to poke around and explore deals to find the ones that are right for you. Restaurants can change them at any time, so check often!
But you don’t have to just sit around and wait for deals to increase. When you share them on your social networks, you can let your friends know what you’re buying so they can buy them too (and everyone gets a good deal).
Groupon deals, however, are static. They never change. What you see is what you get and no amount of sharing them will make them better.
3. We’re giving out free food
We aren’t just looking to sell you deals. We want to enhance your dining experience. We want to change the way people eat in this country so we can all do it more often. (Who doesn’t like going out to eat, right?)
Whenever you share a deal, redeem a deal at a restaurant, and refer a friend (who makes a purchase), you earn dealici points for free future meals
Points are easy to earn. They’ll accumulate naturally as you use the app (just be sure to take advantage of the sharing features). Once you’ve earned enough to buy the deal you like, just turn them in.
Essentially, we’re giving out free food just for using the app! What does Groupon give out for free?
4. Redeem without paper
Groupon deals require you to print out a sheet a paper with the deal and barcode to bring to the restaurant. In this day and age, it’s incredible that anyone is running a business on paper.
Paper means you have to think ahead. Am I near a printer? Does it have ink? Where can I stash this coupon until I use it? Then you have to bring it with you when you show up. Countless people have arrived at their Groupon restaurants or appointments to realize they’ve forgotten or lost their coupon. They often end up paying full price!
That is not what we’re about.
We recognize that this is the age of the smart phone: a convenient little device that does more and more for us with every new model.
Could you imagine leaving the house without your phone? If you’re like most people, you’ve turned your car around a few times to go back and get it, or refused to leave the house until you’ve found it. We figure that if everyone keeps their phone on them at all times, that’s where dealici needs to be.
Dealici deals are redeemed right from your mobile phone when you get to the restaurant.
No paper. No hoops to jump through or obstacles to overcome. Just convenience.
5. You have a variety of choices
How does every restaurant discussion start? It’s always the same way: “What are you in the mood for?”
We aren’t concerned about how far away it is. But we absolutely must satisfy that inner desire that says “I want pasta right now” or “A pizza would be so good” or “I need a beer in me.”
That’s the same question we want people to ask themselves (and their friends) when they open dealici. We don’t want you to ask, “What’s available?” or “What are my options?” That’s lame.
Moreover, we don’t just let restaurants come to us. Sure, we’re happy to speak with any restaurant who wants to take part in the dealici experience, but we make sure to hunt down everyone’s favorite spots and fill dealici with a variety of different styles.
6. Daily, straightforward discounts
Variety is the spice of life, which is why dealici discounts change often. Today your favorite restaurant might offer 20% off your purchase, or 40% off appetizers, or maybe 50% off martinis. Restaurants can play with our system and offer the deals that best suit their customers.
They can change their deals at any time, too. Customers don’t drink martinis? No worries – maybe a beer special will do better.
Furthermore, deals are available every day. That’s unlike Groupon, where deals are sometimes only available once every other week, on Thursdays and Saturdays, but only if the previous Monday was a full moon and the Yankees lost the night before. Who has time to worry about those restrictions?
Our deals are simple to understand and easy to use. Browse our app by restaurant or by cuisines, choose your deal and go get your grub.
7. Help your local restaurants
Small restaurants are one of the backbones of our economy. Most people will work in food service in some capacity at one point in their lives.
One day I’d like you to count every restaurant you pass on your way to work or school. I bet you’ll be surprised at the figure. Now imagine how many people work at those businesses; managers, cooks, servers, busboys, maintenance, etc. Restaurants keep a lot of people employed.
The best way to stimulate an economy is to spend money, so every time you give one of your hard-earned dollars to a restaurant, you’re putting food on someone else’s table – someone who lives right in your community.
Dealici gives you an opportunity to keep your money in your local communities and improve the lives of the people around you.
